The Nigerian Army has approved the redeployment of senior generals to key command, operational and staff positions as part of efforts to strengthen its response to the country’s evolving security challenges.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the new postings, which affect several senior officers across major formations and operational commands. The Army said the exercise was designed to strengthen operational effectiveness and align its leadership structure with current security realities.
Under the new arrangement, Major General I.A. Ajose has been moved from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, where he will serve as Theatre Commander. He replaces Major General A.E. Abubakar, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research.
Other senior officers have also been assigned to strategic positions. Major General I.E. Ekpenyong is moving to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Logistics as Director of Engineering Services, while Brigadier General A.A. Bello has been redeployed to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Operations.
At the brigade level, Brigadier General M.S. Adamu has been appointed Commander of the newly established 8 Brigade, while Brigadier General M.S. Sule moves to 27 Task Force Brigade. Brigadier General I. Sule has also been appointed Commander of 6 Division Garrison, while Brigadier General E. Azenda moves to 2 Division Garrison.
The Army said the redeployments were aimed at ensuring that officers with the appropriate leadership experience and expertise are positioned in critical operational theatres and strategic appointments. The changes come as the military continues operations against insurgency, terrorism and other security threats across the country.

The Merit Newspaper reports that Chief of Army Staff charged the newly appointed commanders to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism and operational innovation. He also urged them to remain committed to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
