A new poll published on Friday, October 23, 2026, has revealed competitive congressional races in two Texas districts ahead of the United States midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
The poll, conducted by The Washington Post and Schar School, found that Democratic candidates have opportunities to challenge Republican candidates in two districts won by President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

In Texas’ 34th Congressional District, Democratic Representative Vicente Gonzalez leads Republican challenger Eric Flores by 50 per cent to 43 per cent, according to the survey.
However, the poll’s margin of error of 5.4 percentage points means the race remains competitive, with the final outcome yet to be determined.

In the newly drawn 35th Congressional District, Republican Carlos De La Cruz and Democrat Johnny Garcia are also locked in a closely contested race, according to the poll.
The findings raise questions about whether Republican efforts to redraw congressional district boundaries in Texas will deliver the expected electoral advantage ahead of the midterm elections.
Economic concerns appear to be influencing voters in both districts, with nearly half of respondents identifying the cost of living as their top issue. About half also said they were financially worse off than when Trump took office.
The poll surveyed likely voters between October 14 and 19, with margins of error of 5.4 percentage points in the 34th District and 6.2 percentage points in the 35th District.
