As the harmattan season approaches in Nigeria, residents of a community in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, have raised concerns following the killing of a stray bush rodent believed to be potentially harmful.

The rodent, which was reportedly chased down and killed in the early hours of Tuesday, November 26, 2024, has sparked curiosity and discussions among locals. A resident, who spoke to The Merit Newspaper, claimed the animal is a poisonous bush rodent that could pose a significant threat if it bites.

“This type of bush rat is dangerous,” the resident explained. “Its bite can be harmful, and people should be cautious when they see such animals.”

To further educate and inform the public, The Merit Newspaper encourages readers to view the accompanying video of the animal and share insights in the comment section. Those who can identify the species or its name in English are urged to contribute for the benefit of others.

As wildlife sightings become more common during the harmattan period, this incident serves as a reminder for communities to remain vigilant and take precautions when encountering unfamiliar animals.
