Ibrahim Kegbegbe in Cape Town

A recent selfie taken in Cape Town, South Africa, challenges the narrative that such advanced infrastructure and serene environments are exclusive to Europe or other developed countries.

The image captures a picturesque street with smooth roads, a double-decker bus—a symbol often associated with cities like London or Paris—and a father carrying his child on his shoulder, enjoying the well-maintained urban atmosphere.

While this scene might appear to be from the UK, USA, or France, it is a testament to what is possible within Africa. South Africa’s well-planned cities and reliable transportation systems stand as a reminder of the potential African nations hold when leadership prioritizes development and the welfare of citizens.

This begs the question: why can’t other African countries, like Nigeria, replicate such progress? With proper governance and a commitment to sustainable development, Nigeria too could offer its citizens the quality of life seen in Cape Town.

Cape Town serves as a shining example of how African cities can mirror global standards, provided there is a collective will to build a better future.
