Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello and Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Adeleke Al-Irshad

In Islamic teachings, the constant remembrance of death is regarded as a vital practice for nurturing piety, humility, and mindfulness of one’s actions. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized this by stating, “Remember often the destroyer of pleasures,” referring to death (Sunan Ibn Majah, 4258). This reminder helps Muslims to focus on their purpose in life and prepare for the eternal hereafter.

The recent passing of renowned Islamic scholars, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello and the CEO of Al-Irshad, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Adeleke Al-Irshad, serves as a poignant reminder of this truth. Both scholars made significant contributions to the propagation of Islam: Sheikh Bello, through his impactful lectures, and Sheikh Adeleke, through his philanthropic deeds that benefited countless lives. May Almighty Allah forgive their shortcomings and grant them Al-Janat Firdaus along with other Muslims who have passed away.

The Quran highlights the transient nature of worldly life and the inevitability of death. Allah says:

“Every soul shall taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion?” (Quran 3:185)

By reflecting on death, Muslims are encouraged to lead righteous lives, avoid sinful behavior, and seek forgiveness. The Quran further reminds believers of the need to prepare for their meeting with Allah:

“And take provision, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding.” (Quran 2:197)

Remembering death also instills humility, as it reminds us that all power and possessions in this world are temporary. Allah says:

“Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction.” (Quran 4:78)

The lives of the late Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello and Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Adeleke Al-Irshad exemplify the impact of striving for good deeds in preparation for the hereafter. Their efforts to serve Islam remind us of the importance of living meaningfully and leaving behind a legacy of righteousness.

The Islamic perspective on remembering death is not meant to create fear but to inspire Muslims to strive for good deeds, maintain humility, and strengthen their connection with Allah. It is through this awareness that one can attain peace in this life and ultimate success in the hereafter.
