Abuja – The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially welcomed the Coalition of Atiku Abubakar Support Groups into its fold, marking a major political realignment following the 2023 general elections.

The defection of these groups, which had previously backed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his presidential bid under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signals a growing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The support groups were led to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, who played a key role in facilitating their transition. During the meeting, the defectors pledged their full allegiance to the APC, citing the party’s commitment to national unity, economic recovery, and progressive governance as their reasons for joining.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, described the move as a testament to the inclusive nature of the Tinubu-led administration. He emphasized that the party remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision of a prosperous and united nation.

“This development shows that the APC is a party for all Nigerians, regardless of their political past. We are committed to building a stronger nation, and we welcome everyone who believes in our vision,” Ganduje said.

Political analysts see the defection as a boost for the APC, particularly as the party seeks to consolidate its influence ahead of future elections. It also underscores a shift in political alliances as the Tinubu administration continues to implement its economic and social policies.

While the PDP has yet to formally react to the defection of Atiku’s support groups, party insiders suggest it could prompt internal reassessments ahead of future electoral contests.

With this latest development, the APC has reaffirmed its position as the dominant political force in Nigeria, strengthening its support base and widening its appeal across various political divides.
