There was palpable tension at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, as the Chairman of Bariga Local Government Area, Hon. Kolade Alabi, collapsed while addressing party stakeholders.
Alabi, who also serves as the national president of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was delivering a speech during the APC stakeholders’ meeting when the unexpected incident occurred.
According to eyewitness accounts, the council boss slumped at exactly 12:10 p.m., sending shockwaves across the venue, which was filled with party chieftains, loyalists, and dignitaries.
Efforts to revive him began immediately as aides and concerned individuals rushed to his side. He was promptly taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
A brief video clip circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) captured the moment Alabi was hurriedly escorted from the venue.
Although the exact cause of his collapse remains unknown at press time, the stakeholders’ meeting was temporarily suspended as participants expressed concern and offered prayers for his quick recovery.
Officials of the APC have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
