Lagos Blue Line to Operate Every 10 Minutes, Boosting Daily Trips to 90

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Lagos commuters will enjoy faster and more frequent train services from Monday, August 11, 2025, as the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line increases its daily trips and cuts travel time between Marina and Mile 2.

According to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the Blue Line will now operate every 10 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays, up from the previous interval of 15 minutes. This adjustment will see daily trips rise from 72 to 90, while Sunday services will remain at 22 trips.

The journey between Marina and Mile 2, which previously took 18 minutes, will now be completed in just 10 minutes, representing an eight-minute reduction. Officials say the improvement is aimed at easing commuter congestion and enhancing the efficiency of the city’s growing rail network.

“This upgrade means shorter waiting times and faster trips for thousands of passengers who rely on the Blue Line daily,” a LAMATA spokesperson said. “It’s part of our commitment to providing a modern, reliable, and sustainable transport system for Lagos.”

The Blue Line, inaugurated in September 2023, is part of the state’s long-term plan to integrate rail transport into its broader mobility strategy. The Marina–Mile 2 stretch is the first phase, with future extensions planned to reach Okokomaiko.

Transport analysts say the shorter travel time could encourage more Lagos residents to switch from road to rail, reducing traffic congestion on the city’s notoriously gridlocked highways.

With this development, the Blue Line edges closer to international urban rail standards, offering Lagosians a faster, cleaner, and more predictable commuting option.
