A group photograph showing former Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and a known Kwankwaso loyalist surfaced on social media on Wednesday evening, April 23, 2025, sparking widespread speculation about a possible defection.
The picture, which has quickly gone viral, has fueled rumours that Kwankwaso may be on his way to joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party he left before founding the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). However, neither the APC nor the NNPP has issued any official statement confirming or denying the defection.
Dr. Kwankwaso, a key figure in the opposition, has recently been the subject of intense political speculation. His past engagements with President Tinubu had earlier raised similar questions, though he has consistently avoided giving a clear position on switching parties.
In a 2024 interview, Kwankwaso had said, “On the issue of joining the government, only time can tell,” suggesting openness to political dialogue but no immediate plans to defect.
With no official clarification from either party as of press time, the group photograph remains a subject of political debate, leaving Nigerians to watch closely for the next move.
