Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State have called on the party leadership to publish the official list of councillorship candidates who emerged victorious in the recently concluded party primaries across the state’s wards.
In a statement made available to The Merit Newspaper Politics Desk, the group—comprising loyal APC members and politically active Lagosians—commended the party’s prompt release of the names of Chairmanship candidates, describing it as a step toward transparency and internal democracy. However, they emphasized the need for the same level of openness regarding the councillorship candidates.
“We appreciate the leadership of our great party for publishing the names of Chairmanship candidates, but we are also urging them to do the same for the Councillorship positions,” the statement read.
An APC chieftain from Alimosho Local Government Area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stressed that releasing the full list of councillorship candidates would not only help in identifying any irregularities but would also enable the electorate—including non-partisan voters—to know who is contesting in their wards.
“This is a grassroots election. Councillors are closer to the people than chairmen, and knowing who they are is essential for informed participation,” the source said.
The call for publication comes amid growing anticipation ahead of the local government elections in Lagos State. Political observers believe that making the full list of councillorship candidates public would bolster voter confidence and enhance accountability within the APC’s local structures.
