The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area for five days to allow for the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of ongoing rehabilitation works.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the closure is necessary to facilitate safe execution of the structural upgrade being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to him, the installation exercise will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., while the second phase is scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
He explained that the entire section of the bridge will be closed to vehicular movement during the specified periods to ensure the safe lifting and placement of the steel beams.
“The operation is scheduled to take place on June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m and on June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Consequently, the entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams,” Osiyemi said.
He added that the closure forms part of a broader traffic management plan aimed at supporting the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the bridge.
The Merit Newspaper reports that motorists were urged to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials who will be deployed to manage vehicular movement and reduce inconvenience during the period of closure.
The state government assured that alternative routes would be managed effectively to ease traffic congestion while the installation work is ongoing.
