President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held separate meetings with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, fueling political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arrived at Aso Rock amid growing speculation about his political future. The Oyo State governor has recently hinted at a possible presidential ambition in 2027 and has publicly reflected on his political decisions during the 2023 general elections.
Makinde had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, admitting that his support for Tinubu at the time did not produce the level of change many Nigerians expected.
In a separate meeting, President Tinubu also received Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The visit marked Mutfwang’s first official meeting with the President since his recent defection from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Although details of the meetings were not disclosed, political observers believe the engagements are part of ongoing consultations and realignments as political actors begin early positioning ahead of the next election cycle.
