Hon. Fatahi Adenaya Modawoni

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has recorded another major political development in Ogun State following the resignation of Hon. Fatahi Adenaya, popularly known as Modawoni, from the party.

Adenaya, who was the NNPP’s candidate for the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Waterside Constituency in the 2023 general election, also served as the Assistant Financial Secretary of the party at the state level.

The politician announced his resignation in a letter dated Thursday, January 22, 2026, addressed to the Ward 3 Chairman in Ibiade, Waterside Local Government Area. Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Barrister Femi John Aina.

In the letter, Adenaya stated that his decision to leave the NNPP was reached after careful consideration, stressing that he intends to take time to reassess his political journey and determine a direction that better aligns with his vision and aspirations.

According to him, the move would provide an opportunity to reposition himself for more meaningful contributions to governance and national development.

The former assembly candidate expressed gratitude to the NNPP leadership and members for the opportunity to serve, noting that the experience gained during his time with the party remains invaluable.

Political observers say Adenaya’s exit may have implications for the party’s structure in Waterside Constituency, where he remains a well-known grassroots figure.
