From Ikota to Lekki, residents commend her seamless takeover, urge her to expand good governance beyond infrastructure projects.

Eti-Osa Council Chairman, Omoba Adeola Adetoro

Lagos, Nigeria – Wednesday, September 17, 2025

When Omoba Adeola Adetoro assumed office as the new Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, she did not waste time proving that governance can be both seamless and people-focused. Having served closely as Deputy Chairman under Hon. Saheed Adesegun Bankole, she knew the pulse of the administration, the pending projects, and, most importantly, the expectations of the people.

Her first actions in office — inspecting ongoing oversight works and giving new promises of infrastructural facilities — struck a chord with the residents. Unlike leadership transitions that often stall progress, Eti-Osa’s new chapter has been marked by continuity. Already, some of the promised infrastructural works are underway, signaling a leadership that matches words with action.

From the streets of Ikota, Igbo-Efon, to the communities of Mayegun, Jakande, and Lekki, the mood among residents is one of optimism.

At Jakande Market, trader Mrs. Folake Adeniyi, who has sold vegetables there for over 10 years, said: “This is the first time in a long while we are seeing a smooth handover. Our new chairman didn’t start afresh with politics; she picked up the work where her boss stopped. That gives us confidence that our projects won’t be abandoned.”

In Lekki, youth leader Kunle Emmanuel expressed his delight: “We the young people are happy that Chairman Adetoro listens to us. She has promised to look into youth empowerment schemes, and if she delivers, it will reduce idleness and joblessness among our youths.”

Civil servant Mrs. Risikat Adebanjo, who works in the council secretariat, also praised her boss’s early moves: “What stands out is her attention to detail. She is not only continuing with the oversight projects, but she is also promising new ones. That balance of continuity and innovation is rare in politics.”

Adding to the chorus of commendation, Mrs. Comfort Timothy, a resident of Ikota Estate, said: “Since August 2025, the chairman has begun distributing free GCE forms to indigent students. This has given many young people in our community hope for a brighter future.”

But governance, as the people know, is broader than infrastructure. Education, healthcare, environmental management, and grassroots development remain areas that require steady attention. It is in these areas that Eti-Osa’s people hope their chairman will expand her touch, ensuring the legacies of Hon. Bankole are not only sustained but surpassed.

The Merit Newspaper joins the voices of Eti-Osa residents in urging Chairman Adetoro to keep the pace, deepen her reforms, and write her name in the annals of the local government as a leader who not only built roads and facilities but also strengthened communities and gave people dignity.

For now, her administration enjoys goodwill — the type that only comes when people see promise in their leaders. If she continues this trajectory, Eti-Osa may soon be celebrated not just as Lagos’s economic hub, but also as a model of responsive and human-centered governance.

And as Chief Bamidele Mathew, a respected community elder in Itedo, Lekki, put it: “We pray for her success, because when leaders succeed, the people succeed. Our hope is that she leads with wisdom, compassion, and fairness, so that Eti-Osa can truly be a home of progress for all.”
