Tinubu Hails APC Victory in By-Elections, Commends INEC for Credible Polls

Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s by-elections held across 16 constituencies in 12 states of the federation, describing the exercise as largely peaceful and a reflection of Nigeria’s growing democratic culture.

The Merit Newspaper reports that according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) clinched two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) one, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) one.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended INEC for conducting what he called “hitch-free elections, mostly devoid of violence,” stressing that the credibility of the polls was an encouraging sign for the nation’s democracy.

The President also congratulated the newly elected APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, noting that the by-election marked the party’s first major victory under his leadership.

“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” Tinubu said.

He further praised APC governors and stakeholders for their roles in securing victory, while assuring party members and Nigerians at large that the “Renewed Hope” agenda of his administration remains a concrete commitment and not just a slogan.

“To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God,” the President affirmed.

Beyond his party’s triumph, President Tinubu also lauded all political parties and candidates who participated in the by-elections, urging them to embrace sportsmanship, fairness, and magnanimity, which he described as “enablers of enduring democracy.”

The by-elections, conducted on August 16, filled vacant legislative seats in the affected constituencies following court rulings and resignations.
