ABEOKUTA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Sunday depart Abuja for Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to attend the eighth-day Fidau prayer in honour of the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON.
The revered monarch, who reigned for over six decades, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 91, leaving behind an enduring legacy of traditional leadership, cultural preservation, and progressive engagement with successive governments.
According to a statement from the Presidency, President Tinubu’s attendance underscores his deep respect for the royal institution and personal relationship with the late monarch, who was widely regarded as a symbol of wisdom, courage, and integrity within the Nigerian traditional system.
The Fidau prayer ceremony is expected to draw dignitaries from across the country, including governors, ministers, traditional rulers, and notable sons and daughters of Ijebuland.

Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in April, 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning monarchs. He was instrumental in elevating Ijebuland’s national profile and was the founder and benefactor of the Oba Sikiru Adetona Institute for Governance Studies at Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Security arrangements and logistics preparations are already underway in Ijebu-Ode to receive the President and other high-profile guests attending the event.
