Abuja, Jan. — The United States chapter of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO USA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, as a step toward resolving the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State.
The Merit Newspaper reports that the NADECO USA made the call in a statement issued by its leadership, arguing that Wike’s continued involvement in Rivers State politics has deepened tensions and instability in the state.
According to the group, removing the former Rivers State governor from the federal cabinet would help de-escalate the crisis and allow democratic institutions in the state to function without undue influence.
The group urged President Tinubu to act in the interest of peace, democratic stability, and good governance, warning that failure to address the situation could further polarize the state and undermine public confidence in the federal government.
Rivers State has remained embroiled in political turmoil following a power struggle between key political actors, resulting in divisions within the state legislature and governance challenges.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency and the FCT Minister had not officially responded to NADECO USA’s call.
