The political atmosphere in Abuja came alive on Thursday as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, officially submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 governorship election to national officers of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event attracted several party leaders, political associates, and supporters who accompanied Hamzat to the APC national secretariat in what many observers described as a strong show of unity, acceptance, and confidence in his leadership capacity.

Hamzat’s growing popularity within the ruling party has continued to generate conversations across political circles, especially as he is being widely regarded as one of the few deputy governors in Nigeria to openly enjoy the endorsement and confidence of his principal ahead of a governorship contest.

Political stakeholders at the event praised the deputy governor for his loyalty, administrative experience, and contributions to governance in Lagos State, noting that his relationship with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has remained stable and productive.

Supporters also described Hamzat as a bridge-builder whose years in public service and grassroots political engagement have positioned him as a strong contender for the governorship seat.

The large turnout of APC chieftains at the submission ceremony further reflected the increasing momentum behind his aspiration and the growing belief among party faithful that continuity and stability remain important for the future of Lagos State politics.
