Ogun, Nigeria – Sunday, May 25, 2025 – The Modawoni family of Water Side, Ogun State has been thrown into mourning following the death of one of its beloved matriarchs, a cherished grandmother, mother, and aunt, Mrs Otuyiga Abibat, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday, May 25, 2025.

The announcement was made by Àjàyí Oluwatimilehin, the Personal Assistant to Hon. Fatai Adenaya Modawoni, a respected community leader and political figure in WaterSide, Ogun State.

“With a heavy heart, I announce the demise of our dearly beloved grandmother, mother, and aunt – a woman of remarkable compassion and strength,” Oluwatimilehin said. “She was not only a central pillar in the Modawoni family but also a beacon of kindness in her community. Her loss is deeply felt.”

According to the family, the deceased was a revered mother in the extended Modawoni lineage, known for its strong cultural heritage and dedication to public service. Abibat was described as a deeply spiritual woman who lived a life of humility and generosity, touching many with her wisdom and warmth.

“She has been buried according to Islamic rites after the Suhri prayer today,” Oluwatimilehin confirmed. “We pray that the angel who welcomes the soul with infinite beauty receives her with peace and light.”

The announcement sparked a wave of condolences across political and social circles, with many praising the values she instilled in her children and extended family.

Hon. Fatai Adenaya Modawoni, in whose honour the tribute was shared, is a grassroots politician and a notable figure in Ogun State. He is widely recognized for his commitment to youth empowerment and community development initiatives across Water Side.

The Modawoni family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers during this time of grief and asked for continued remembrance of the late matriarch in the hearts of well-wishers.
