Adeleke’s family at President Tinubu’s Villa in Lagos on Tuesday, 3 June, 2025

LAGOS, Nigeria – In a development that has stirred political interest nationwide, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, his elder brother and businessman Dr. Deji Adeleke, and Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, paid a surprise visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his residence in Lagos on Tuesday.

The high-profile visit, which has not yet been officially explained by either side, comes amid growing speculation about strategic political alignments ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun State and the 2027 presidential election.

Sources familiar with the meeting told The Merit Newspaper that the interaction was “cordial and politically significant,” with discussions possibly bordering on collaboration and mutual support between the Adeleke political dynasty and President Tinubu’s camp in the years ahead.

Governor Adeleke, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to seek re-election in 2026, while President Tinubu, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is widely believed to be preparing for a second term bid in 2027. The visit has therefore raised questions about potential realignments or behind-the-scenes understandings that could influence the electoral landscape in the Southwest.

Political observers say the presence of Dr. Deji Adeleke, a respected businessman and key influencer in the Adeleke family’s political engagements, adds further weight to the visit. Equally, the inclusion of Davido, one of Africa’s most popular musicians and a known supporter of his uncle’s political aspirations, lends a public and cultural edge to the gathering.

While neither the presidency nor Osun State Government has released an official statement regarding the visit, photos and brief footage of the meeting circulating online show President Tinubu warmly receiving the Adeleke entourage.

The encounter has already sparked a wave of reactions across social media, with citizens and analysts alike speculating on the implications for Nigeria’s political future.

In Osun State, the PDP and APC have been engaged in a fierce contest for control, with Governor Adeleke defeating the incumbent APC administration in 2022 after a dramatic electoral battle. The 2026 election is expected to be a high-stakes rematch, and any signs of cross-party understanding at the highest level could reshape voter expectations.

For now, political analysts are watching closely to see whether the Lagos meeting signals a shift in alliances, a gesture of reconciliation, or simply a strategic outreach in the lead-up to two of the most consequential elections in Nigeria’s near future.
