The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has issued a stern warning to political aspirants and their parties against engaging in premature campaigning ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile, the Chairman of LASIEC, emphasized that political parties must adhere strictly to electoral laws and guidelines. She cautioned against the unauthorized display of banners, posters, flex materials, and other campaign paraphernalia across various wards and local government areas in Lagos State, stating that the electoral body has yet to officially release its campaign timetable.

In line with this directive, The Merit Newspaper gathered that LASIEC has urged all state party chairmen to instruct their local government counterparts to ensure immediate compliance. Any aspirant or party found violating this directive risks severe sanctions, which may include disqualification from the electoral process.

Justice Ighile reiterated that LASIEC remains committed to ensuring a level playing field for all political participants and warned that any attempt to undermine the electoral guidelines would be met with strict enforcement actions.

As the anticipation for the local government elections builds, political stakeholders are advised to wait for LASIEC’s official campaign schedule before engaging in any form of public mobilization.
