Lagos, Nigeria – Renowned Fuji music icon, King Dr. Saheed Akorede Osupa, has reaffirmed his influence on the younger generation of Fuji musicians, stating that those adopting his musical style are his disciples. He also acknowledged that artists following the pattern of Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, popularly known as Oganla Fuji or Ijoba Fuji, are disciples of Pasuma.
Osupa emphasized the mentorship role that he and Pasuma play in the Fuji music industry, urging young Fuji musicians to recognize and respect them as their bosses. He noted that regardless of their affiliations, all Fuji artists inspired by their music should pay homage to the pioneers.
“All these Fuji musicians should always see me and my friend, Pasuma Wonder, as their bosses,” Osupa asserted.
He further challenged those who are not willing to remain loyal to their mentors to carve out their own unique paths in the industry.
“Either Pasuma’s boys or Osupa’s boys, Pasuma Wonder and I will always remain your mentors,” he reiterated. “Mentees should be submissive to their bosses unless they are ready to create a unique voice that is not related to ours.”
Osupa’s remarks highlight the ongoing influence of veteran Fuji musicians in shaping the industry’s future, ensuring that the genre maintains its authenticity and cultural significance.
