Oyo Extends Curfew in 10 LGAs Over Security Concerns

IBADAN — Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a 24-hour extension of the curfew earlier imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, citing ongoing security concerns in the affected communities.

The extension was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

The state government had on June 23, 2026, imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. across the affected local government areas as part of measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property and restoring normalcy in the region.

With the latest directive, the curfew, which was initially scheduled to last for 48 hours, will now remain in force until Saturday, June 27, 2026.

According to the government, the decision to extend the restriction on movement was taken after a review of the security situation within the affected areas and consultations with relevant security agencies.

The local government areas affected by the curfew are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

Residents of the affected councils have been urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security personnel deployed to maintain law and order.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the state government reassured residents that the temporary measure is aimed at protecting communities and preventing any breakdown of law and order while security agencies continue operations in the area.

Authorities also appealed for calm, vigilance and support from community leaders and residents, assuring them that every effort is being made to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The government further stated that it would continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates as the security situation evolves.
