Popular Nollywood actress and social advocate, Foluke Daramola-Salako, has formally declared her intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daramola-Salako presented her Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on Saturday at the party’s Oshodi secretariat in Lagos, signalling her official entry into what is shaping up to be a keenly contested race ahead of the party primaries.

Her declaration marks a significant development in the constituency’s political dynamics, as she emerges as the only female aspirant in a field largely dominated by male contenders.

“I Am Ready for the Task” — Daramola-Salako
Addressing party leaders and ward executives, including the APC Chairman in Oshodi-Isolo, Saheed Animashaun, the actress-turned-politician emphasised her preparedness and vision for effective representation.

“I am not just here to present my forms, but to assure you of my deep commitment and passion for the success of this aspiration,” she said.

Drawing on her years of public engagement, she added:
“I bring a well-thought-out transition plan, drawn from my long-standing involvement in contemporary politics, into a movement driven by exceptional, conscientious, and purposeful leadership.”

Highlighting her unique position as the sole female contender, Daramola-Salako expressed confidence in her chances.

“I am aware that I am the only woman in this contest, and I remain confident and hopeful. I have what it takes to succeed,” she stated.

She further pledged people-oriented representation if elected to the Green Chamber.

“When elected, my tenure will be creatively exceptional, people-focused, and truly rewarding. As a woman, my empathy and conscience are my greatest strengths, and I assure you our people will be proud of my performance.”

Grassroots Development Agenda
Daramola-Salako anchored her campaign on grassroots-driven development, promising policies and initiatives that directly impact constituents at the community level.

With over three decades of experience spanning entertainment, advocacy, and humanitarian service, she positioned herself as a candidate capable of bridging the gap between governance and the everyday needs of the people.

The Merit Newspaper reports that political observers note that her entry could reshape conversations around gender inclusion and representation, particularly in Lagos politics where female participation at elective levels remains relatively low.

Party Backs Female Participation
In his remarks, Animashaun commended her courage and described her ambition as a positive signal for inclusive politics within the APC.

He reaffirmed the party’s openness to supporting credible female aspirants who demonstrate leadership capacity and strategic direction.

Her aspiration, he noted, aligns with broader efforts to deepen democratic participation and encourage more women to take active roles in governance.

Background and Political Trajectory
Beyond her celebrated career in Nollywood, Daramola-Salako has built a reputation as a social crusader and policy advocate, particularly on issues affecting women, children, and vulnerable groups.

She has previously engaged in political processes and governance advocacy, giving her a blend of public visibility and grassroots connection that could prove decisive in the race.

Her campaign team disclosed that she has commenced wide consultations with party stakeholders, community leaders, and grassroots mobilizers across Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I.

The Road Ahead
As the APC primaries draw closer, attention is expected to intensify around her candidacy, especially given her celebrity status and reform-focused messaging.

For many constituents, her ambition represents more than a political bid—it signals a potential shift toward a more inclusive and people-driven representation in one of Lagos State’s most vibrant constituencies.

Whether her influence from the screen translates into electoral success at the polls remains to be seen, but her entry has undeniably added momentum and intrigue to the race.
