Ibadan, Oyo State —
Governor Seyi Makinde has described 2026 as a decisive year for Oyo State and Nigeria, declaring that the achievements of his administration will outlive his tenure as he prepares to leave office next year.

The governor spoke on Sunday at a thanksgiving service held at Victory International Church, Elebu, where he joined Bishop Taiwo Adelakun and his family to mark a special celebration.

Addressing worshippers, Makinde said his administration remains focused on completing key development projects while also seeking spiritual backing as it enters its final phase.

“2026 is a pivotal year for Oyo State and indeed Nigeria, and as an administration, we covet the prayers and support of the church as we approach the end of our tenure in office,” Makinde said.

He noted that while his own term as governor will end in 2027, the reform agenda of his government—popularly called Omituntun—would not come to an end.
“While my own tenure as governor will end next year, Omituntun will continue in our dear State,” he assured.
The Omituntun agenda, launched in 2019, has focused on infrastructure development, security, education, agribusiness, and improved ease of doing business in Oyo State. Under Makinde, the state has gained national attention for road construction, public sector reforms and private-sector partnerships, particularly in agribusiness and security architecture.

Roads to Be Fixed Before 2027
Makinde also used the church gathering to reassure residents of Elebu and neighbouring communities that two long-awaited road projects will be completed before he leaves office.

The roads include the BCJ–Railway–Gbekuba–NIHORT Junction axis, a strategic route linking residential areas, farmlands and research institutions in Ibadan.

“I assured our people in Elebu and those residing around the BCJ-Railway-Gbekuba-NIHORT Junction that both roads will be fixed before the end of our tenure in office in fulfilment of my promise to them,” the governor said.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the road corridor serves the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) and several fast-growing communities, making it a key link for agricultural research, transport and local commerce.

Residents of the area have long complained about the poor condition of the roads, which become nearly impassable during the rainy season, disrupting movement and economic activities.

Makinde’s latest pledge is expected to raise hopes in the communities, especially as his administration moves into its final year.

As political activities ahead of 2027 begin to intensify, the governor’s message at the church signalled both a reflection on his legacy and a reaffirmation of unfinished commitments to the people of Oyo State.
