In a groundbreaking move to enhance academic progression, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a new initiative that allows students to retake failed subjects without waiting for another year. Known as the ‘WASSCE PC1’ program, the initiative is set to commence in January 2025, providing candidates with a swift opportunity to improve their grades. The examinations will be conducted between January 24 and February 15, 2025, in designated regional capitals across the participating countries.
Students can register for the exams online via the official WAEC website or through accredited internet cafés. The registration process, which began recently, is open until January 8, 2025. WAEC management explained that this maiden edition would attract a limited number of candidates, hence the decision to focus on regional capitals.
Speaking about the initiative, a WAEC official emphasized the importance of eliminating the year-long wait traditionally required for retaking failed subjects. “This program is designed to help students maintain their academic progression without unnecessary delays. It is a milestone in improving educational outcomes across the region,” the official said.
