AGO Egun, Agosasa—In what observers have described as a strategic blend of political realignment and grassroots engagement, Hon. Abioro Damilare Athande (ADA) on Saturday met with elders, leaders, and stakeholders of the Ago Egun, Agosasa Community in Athanmayi Unit, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, ahead of his planned defection to the All Progress Congress (APC).

The meeting, which coincided with activities marking his 40th birthday anniversary, drew notable figures within the ward and community leadership structure, underscoring the growing political interest surrounding Athande’s next move.

Among those in attendance were Hon. Hunpe Peter, a former Agosasa Ward Councilor; Elder Kuton Michael; Mr. Korotoe Sunday; Mr. Agboyinu Samuel, former Deputy Ward Chairman of the APC; Mr. Koko Samson; Elder Ogungbe Ezekiel; Mr. Josu Hotepo; Mr. Abioro Anthony Viwanu; and Mr. Hunye Joseph.

Addressing the gathering, Athande expressed deep appreciation to party executives and stakeholders across Nigeria for what he described as “setting the pace for progressive governance and inspiring a new generation of leaders.”

“I am profoundly grateful to the leadership and members of the APC across the country for their commitment to national development,” Athande said. “Your dedication continues to inspire those of us who are passionate about contributing meaningfully to governance and nation-building.”

He paid special tribute to the elders and leaders of the APC in Ago Egun, Agosasa Community, Athanmayi Unit, commending their unwavering commitment to grassroots development.

“This community holds a special place in my heart. Your consistency, wisdom, and sacrifices toward development have not gone unnoticed. I am here today not just to celebrate a milestone, but to reaffirm my commitment to serve you better,” he added.

Speaking on his planned defection, Athande outlined his mission to align with what he termed “a platform that offers broader opportunities to drive impactful governance.”

“My decision to join the APC is guided by a clear vision—to connect our local aspirations with national opportunities. I believe this step will position us better to attract development, empower our youths, and strengthen democratic values in our community and beyond,” he stated.

In his remarks, Hon. Hunpe Peter described Athande’s move as a significant boost to the political landscape of Agosasa and Ipokia at large.

“This defection is not just a personal decision; it is a development that will positively influence governance and deepen democratic participation in our area. Seeing a vibrant young leader with clear intentions for good governance gives us hope for the future of Nigeria,” he said.

Elder Kuton Michael, in an emotional reflection, recalled the legacy of the late Pa Abioro Hodonu, describing him as a respected political figure in Ipokia Local Government.

“The late Pa Abioro Hodonu was a pillar in our political history. His contributions to community and national politics remain unforgettable. Today, we see his legacy living on through his son, who has inherited not just his name, but his passion for service,” Kuton noted.

Also lending his voice, Mr. Josu Hotepo urged Athande to remain focused and development-driven, particularly highlighting the economic prospects of the proposed Tongeji Oil Refinery.

“Ipokia stands on the threshold of economic transformation, and projects like the Tongeji Oil Refinery can redefine our future. We encourage you to align your political vision with such opportunities for the benefit of our people,” he said.

In a call to action, Mr. Agboyinu Samuel charged youths within the community to take active roles in shaping Nigeria’s future through political participation.

“The future belongs to the youths, but it requires courage and involvement. Leaders like Hon. Athande are paving the way, and it is time for more young people to rise and take responsibility for the Nigeria we desire,” he emphasized.

Other speakers, including Mr. Korotoe Sunday, Mr. Hunye Joseph, Mr. Koko Samson, Elder Ogungbe Ezekiel, and Mr. Abioro Anthony Viwanu, congratulated Athande on what they described as a “timely and strategic political step,” offering prayers for his success and guidance in his political journey.

In a collective assurance, the elders and leaders of the APC in Ago Egun, Agosasa Community pledged their unwavering support for Athande at all levels, expressing confidence in his leadership potential.

Responding, Athande reaffirmed his loyalty to the people and his commitment to national unity and development.

“I remain committed to the ideals of service, loyalty, and progress—not just to this community, but to Nigeria as a whole. Together, we will build a future we can all be proud of,” he reiterated.

The meeting ended on a note of optimism, with stakeholders expressing renewed confidence in grassroots-driven leadership as Nigeria continues its democratic journey.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
