The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has openly endorsed the governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, declaring that Surulere, his political stronghold, is fully behind the aspirant.

Gbajabiamila made this known during a political consultation by Hamzat, describing the Deputy Governor as a competent and capable leader with the experience required to govern a complex state like Lagos. The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said his confidence in Hamzat is rooted in years of public service and proven administrative ability.

“Dr. Hamzat, you’re a man of honour, and it shows by not taking things for granted, judging by this consultation move,” Gbajabiamila said. “But I am saying it publicly that you can take me for granted because I have confidence in your ability and capacity. So, take my support for granted. My constituency, Surulere, is for you.”

He added that beyond Surulere, Lagos residents should see Hamzat as a unifying figure capable of sustaining the state’s development trajectory. “Lagos is for you to win,” he declared, reinforcing his belief that the Deputy Governor possesses both the political structure and goodwill needed for victory.

Hamzat, who has been consulting key stakeholders across the state, said his aspiration is driven by a desire to consolidate on existing achievements while introducing policies that will further improve infrastructure, education, and economic opportunities for residents.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the political observers note that Gbajabiamila’s endorsement could significantly strengthen Hamzat’s position within the ruling party, given his influence in Lagos politics and national stature within the party hierarchy.
As consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, the open show of support from one of Lagos’ most influential political figures signals growing momentum for Hamzat’s ambition and sets the tone for what could become a defining contest in the state’s political landscape.
