The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has publicly declared his support for his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, describing him as “the best for the job” in what appears to be a significant political signal ahead of future leadership considerations in the state.

Sanwo-Olu remarked during a high-level stakeholders’ engagement in the Lagos State Governor’s Office, where party loyalists, government officials, and community leaders gathered to deliberate on governance and continuity. The governor, while addressing the audience, praised Hamzat’s competence, loyalty, and deep understanding of the state’s development agenda.

“I have worked closely with him over the years, and I can say without hesitation that he is the best man for the job,” Sanwo-Olu said. “His commitment to service, his intellect, and his passion for Lagos make him eminently qualified to take on greater responsibilities.”

The Merit Newspaper reports that the governor further noted that Hamzat has played a pivotal role in the successes recorded by his administration, particularly in key sectors such as infrastructure, technology, and public service reforms. According to him, the deputy governor’s contributions have often gone beyond routine duties, reflecting a leader prepared for higher office.

In his response, Hamzat expressed gratitude for the governor’s confidence, describing the endorsement as both humbling and motivating. “I am deeply honoured by His Excellency’s words,” he said. “Our focus remains on delivering the dividends of democracy to Lagosians, and I will continue to serve with dedication and integrity.”

Political observers view the endorsement as a strategic move that could significantly shape the state’s political landscape in the coming years. With Lagos being a critical economic hub, leadership succession often attracts intense interest from party stakeholders and the general public.

As discussions around the future leadership of Lagos State continue to gain momentum, Sanwo-Olu’s endorsement of Hamzat is expected to spark conversations within political circles, potentially influencing alignments and preparations ahead of the next electoral cycle.
