Sanwo-Olu Approves N50,000 Relief for Lagos Workers

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a N50,000 relief package for workers in the state as part of measures to ease the impact of current economic challenges.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the announcement was made on Friday during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, with the theme “Insecurity, Poverty – Bane of Decent Work.”

The governor, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, said the payment would be included in workers’ May salaries and would apply across all categories of public servants.

He explained that the initiative was designed to provide immediate financial relief to workers facing rising inflation and broader economic pressures affecting households across the state.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the Lagos State Government remains committed to improving the welfare of workers, who he described as central to the state’s economic growth, including teachers, health professionals, and artisans.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s focus on sustained infrastructure development, improved public service delivery, and strengthened engagement with labour unions to maintain industrial harmony.

The governor further highlighted ongoing investments in security and key infrastructure projects, stating that the success of his administration would be measured by completed projects and lasting reforms, while adding that the relief package would be subject to periodic review.
