The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has formally endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general election, marking an early consolidation of the party’s political structure ahead of the polls.

The decision was reached during a strategic leadership meeting held in Samonda, Ibadan, where top party stakeholders from across the state reviewed the APC’s electoral preparedness and internal cohesion. The gathering was described as part of broader efforts to reposition the party for a stronger performance in the next election cycle.

Speaking at the meeting, Senator (Chief) Hamzat Ayo Adeseun said the consensus was the outcome of extensive consultations among leaders and key stakeholders. He noted that the endorsement also reflected the perceived alignment of the decision with the political direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the APC.

Adeseun explained that consultations held in Abuja with President Tinubu reportedly reinforced support for Senator Alli’s aspiration, stressing that the President’s position carries significant influence within the party’s hierarchy. He added that Alli had earlier declared his intention to contest the governorship race before the endorsement was finalized.

Similarly, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Director of the South West Development Commission, urged unity within the party, noting that internal cohesion would be crucial for electoral success. He called on other aspirants to respect the consensus arrangement and work collectively for the party’s victory in 2027.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the meeting attracted prominent APC leaders, political stakeholders, and representatives from the three senatorial districts of Oyo State, reflecting a broad-based attempt to stabilize the party’s structure and avoid past internal disputes that weakened its electoral outings.

In his response, Senator Alli expressed appreciation for the endorsement, pledging inclusive leadership and commitment to party unity. With the development, the APC in Oyo State appears to be strategically aligning early around a single candidate as it seeks to strengthen its chances in the 2027 governorship election.
