Supporters of Seyi Makinde are set to hold a major political gathering in Ibadan on Thursday, May 14, amid growing speculation that the governor may adopt Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as the preferred platform for his political loyalists ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, tagged Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026, is scheduled to take place at Mapo Hall and has been announced as a meeting for party leaders, executives, stakeholders and members across the state.
Invitations circulating among political supporters indicate that the rally is expected to draw a large crowd, with many seeing it as a significant step in the political activities leading to the 2027 elections in Oyo State.
The planned gathering comes amid reports that some loyalists of Governor Makinde are considering moving from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APM following internal disagreements within the opposition party at the national level.
Although Governor Makinde has not officially announced any defection from the PDP, political observers believe the Ibadan rally could provide a platform for a formal declaration or a public endorsement of APM as a new political base for his supporters.
The Merit Newspaper reports that the development has already generated discussions in Oyo political circles, as Makinde remains a key figure in determining the succession politics in the state ahead of the end of his second term in office.
