Popular Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has pledged to play an active role in safeguarding the integrity of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, warning against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

The governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026, with the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, seeking a second term in office under the Accord Party platform.

Davido, who is Governor Adeleke’s nephew, made the declaration through a post shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday. The award-winning musician posted a video clip featuring former Resident Electoral Commissioner, Nnenna Otti, discussing issues surrounding electoral malpractice and the need to protect democratic processes.

In his reaction, the singer vowed to be physically present during the election and cautioned individuals or groups against engaging in activities capable of undermining the will of the electorate.

According to him, every legitimate vote cast by the people of Osun State must count, stressing that attempts to rig the election would be resisted through lawful and democratic means.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the statement has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with supporters applauding his commitment to electoral transparency while others emphasized the need for all stakeholders to promote peaceful participation before, during, and after the election.

Political observers note that the 2026 Osun governorship contest is expected to attract significant national attention, given the state’s political history and the growing involvement of influential public figures in electoral advocacy.

As preparations for the election gather momentum, electoral stakeholders, civil society organisations, and political parties have continued to call for a free, fair, credible, and peaceful exercise that reflects the wishes of the people of Osun State.
