Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, Chairman of Egbeda Local Government and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Oyo State, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for promoting political understanding and harmony among political aspirants in the state, while urging traders to support candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Sanda, who is also the Director-General of Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo’s campaign committee, made the remarks at a gathering of traders and artisans in Oyo State, where he highlighted the importance of political accommodation and cooperation in building a united political platform.
He described the ability to accommodate different political interests and assign responsibilities without persistent disagreements as essential to maintaining harmony among aspirants, adding that such an approach could strengthen political cooperation and reduce internal conflicts.
The ALGON chairman urged traders to view electoral participation beyond the interests of candidates seeking political offices, stressing that elections also provide an opportunity for citizens to advance their economic interests, improve their livelihoods and contribute to the development of their communities.

“The electoral process is not only about the candidates. It is also about the progress and well-being of the electorate. The people must look at what political participation can bring to their businesses, families and communities,” Sanda said.
He also praised the Makinde administration for what he described as its efforts in maintaining security across Oyo State, paying civil servants’ salaries regularly and ensuring the timely payment of pensions to retired workers. According to him, these measures have contributed to economic stability for many families.

Sanda called on traders to consider the broader implications of governance when deciding which candidates to support in the 2027 elections, emphasising that political choices should reflect the welfare of the electorate and the overall development of the state.
The Merit Newspaper reports that Sanda further disclosed that Ajadi’s campaign committee had resolved to engage traders across all 11 local government areas of Oyo Central Senatorial District during campaign activities. He said the initiative was designed to promote inclusive participation and provide market women, artisans and other business operators with opportunities to communicate their concerns directly to the senatorial candidate.
