The ruling All Progressives Congress has reportedly appointed three prominent opposition-linked politicians to coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in key states ahead of the 2027 general election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has included Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in its revised Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.
The appointments, reported by Nigerian media outlets on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, have attracted political attention because the three figures are associated with political parties other than the APC.

Adeleke, who is associated with the Accord Party, was reportedly named coordinator of the APC presidential campaign in Osun State, while Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was assigned a similar responsibility in Anambra State.
Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite his working relationship with President Tinubu’s administration, was reportedly appointed to coordinate the campaign in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
The development underscores the strategic importance of political alliances and influential figures as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential election.

For the APC, the reported appointments could represent an effort to broaden its political reach beyond its traditional membership and strengthen its campaign structure in states where influential political figures may help mobilise voters.
Adeleke commands a significant political following in Osun State, while Soludo remains a major political figure in Anambra State. Wike, a former Rivers State governor, also retains considerable political influence in Rivers and has maintained a working relationship with the Tinubu administration despite his PDP affiliation.

However, their reported inclusion in the APC campaign structure should not automatically be interpreted as a formal defection to the ruling party. Campaign appointments and party membership are separate political matters, and any change in party affiliation would require independent confirmation.
The revised campaign council was also expected to be inaugurated by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, according to reports published on Tuesday.
The appointments, if confirmed in the final official list, could become a significant talking point in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape as the APC prepares to defend its position at the centre of national power in 2027.
The Merit Newspaper will continue to monitor developments surrounding the campaign council and report further details as they emerge.
