Spain booked their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after producing a disciplined and clinical performance to defeat France 2-0 in the first semi-final on Tuesday.
The Spaniards controlled large spells of the encounter, combining their trademark possession-based football with ruthless finishing to end France’s hopes of lifting a second World Cup title in eight years.
After an evenly contested opening period, Spain broke the deadlock through a well-worked attacking move that exposed the French defence. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in Spain’s favour as Luis de la Fuente’s men continued to dictate the pace of the game.
France, despite boasting a wealth of attacking talent, struggled to break down Spain’s organised defence. Several attempts to restore parity were comfortably dealt with by the Spanish backline and goalkeeper, who remained composed throughout the contest.
