Oganla Fuji with the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanowo-Olu along with Sheikh Jamiu Sanusi Ami Olohun in America

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently met with renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Odetola, popularly known as Pasuma, and respected Islamic cleric, Sheikh Jamiu Ajadi Sanusi (Ami Olohun), during his working visit to the United States of America.

The Merit Newspaper reports that the meeting, which held on the sidelines of the governor’s international engagements, brought together three prominent figures from politics, entertainment, and religion—sectors that continue to shape the social and cultural life of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.

According to sources, the gathering was not only a courtesy meeting but also a symbolic show of unity between government leaders, cultural icons, and spiritual authorities. Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Nigerian community in the United States for maintaining their cultural identity and contributing to their host country’s economy, while also encouraging them to invest back home in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.

Pasuma, who has continued to enjoy relevance as one of the most celebrated Fuji musicians in Nigeria, expressed delight at the governor’s recognition of Nigerian entertainers abroad. He emphasized the role of music and culture in strengthening the bonds between Nigerians at home and those in the diaspora.

On his part, Sheikh Jamiu Ajadi Sanusi, popularly known as Ami Olohun, urged Nigerians in America to remain united and committed to their faith and values despite living far away from home. He praised the governor’s outreach as a step toward building trust and inclusiveness among Nigerians in the diaspora.

Observers note that the meeting highlights the growing importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing the challenges of migration, cultural preservation, and community development among Nigerians abroad.
