Hon. Adenaya Fatai, popularly known as Modawoni, a former House of Assembly candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, on Tuesday met with the lawmaker representing Ogun Waterside Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawal Samusideen Adekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abeokuta, Ogun State — January 20, 2026
In a move signalling bipartisan cooperation for grassroots development, Hon.

The meeting, which took place at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta, focused on charting a common front for the development and integration of Ogun Waterside Constituency within the broader development agenda of Ogun State.

Hon. Lawal Samusideen Adekunle, who is the current representative of Ogun Waterside Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, described the engagement as timely and necessary, stressing that political affiliation should never be a barrier to collective progress.

“Party differences and ideological variations should not hinder the development of Waterside or Ogun State as a whole,” Adekunle said. “What matters most is our shared responsibility to the people who entrusted us with leadership.”

Speaking after the meeting, Hon. Adenaya Fatai explained that his visit was in response to an invitation from the lawmaker, noting that the discussion centred on unity, cooperation and sustainable development for the constituency.

“I came to see the Honourable member representing my constituency upon his invitation,” Modawoni said. “Our discussion was anchored on how Waterside Constituency can be better integrated into the development framework of Ogun State, irrespective of party lines.”

He added that the people of Ogun Waterside stand to benefit more when leaders work together in the interest of the community, rather than allowing political rivalry to stall progress.

In his remarks, Hon. Adekunle expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of maturity and shared commitment to public service.

“I am very happy to receive my brother, who paid me a courtesy visit at the Ogun State House of Assembly,” he said. “May we live long to experience the betterment of Waterside Constituency and Ogun State at large.”

Political observers say the meeting reflects a growing trend of cross-party collaboration at the state level, particularly on issues bordering on environmental sustainability, infrastructure and grassroots development—key concerns for the riverine Ogun Waterside area.

Residents of the constituency have often called for stronger unity among political leaders to address long-standing challenges such as erosion, environmental degradation and access to basic social amenities.

The meeting between Modawoni and the PDP lawmaker is being viewed as a positive step toward fostering inclusive governance and accelerated development in Ogun Waterside Constituency.
