In reality, Saturday night’s clash between Nigeria and Algeria threatens to become something far deeper than a battle for a semi-final ticket—it is a direct confrontation between African attacking pedigree and European-bred defensive discipline.
Standing between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and another continental breakthrough is not merely Algeria, but their goalkeeper, Luca Zidane—the son of football royalty and the custodian of a record that now dares Nigeria’s most feared forwards to destroy it.
Zidane has not conceded a single goal at the 2025 AFCON, quietly building a clean-sheet run that has turned him into Algeria’s unlikely headline act. Against a Nigerian side powered by two former African Players of the Year—Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen—the question is no longer about tactics alone.
