Yola, Adamawa State — July 10, 2025

In a surprising political development, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suffered an early setback ahead of the 2027 general elections as one of its grassroots leaders, Musa Ribadu Sani, the Ward Chairman of Bako Ward in Yola South Local Government Area, has tendered his resignation from the party.

The Merit Newspaper reports that Sani’s resignation, dated July 10, 2025, comes barely a year after the ADC publicly declared its ambition to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This development raises concerns about the party’s internal cohesion and readiness to mount a serious challenge at the national level.

In his letter addressed to the ADC Ward Chairman in Bako, Sani cited “growing factionalism within the party and a lack of clear direction, which stems from continued unseriousness by the leadership” as his reasons for stepping down. The former chairman also noted that his resignation takes effect immediately.

Observers believe that such a high-profile resignation at the ward level, especially from a party official, signals deeper issues within the ADC’s organisational structure.

“This is not just about one man stepping aside. It reflects a broader discontent among committed party members,” said a local political analyst in Yola. “If the ADC intends to be a serious contender in 2027, it must address internal disunity and leadership credibility.”

The ADC has recently been vocal about positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), promising sweeping reforms and inclusive governance. However, Sani’s exit suggests that the party may be struggling to keep its base united.

At the time of filing this report, the leadership of the ADC in Adamawa State had not issued an official response to the resignation.

Political watchers say the coming months will be crucial for the ADC, as it either rebuilds internally or risks losing the momentum it has tried to gather ahead of the 2027 polls.
