Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced plans to convene its 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026, in what is expected to be a decisive gathering amid ongoing internal realignments.

The high-level meeting, scheduled for 2:00 p.m., will bring together key stakeholders, including members of the National Working Committee, governors, lawmakers, and other senior party figures, to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the party’s cohesion and future electoral strategy.

Party insiders indicate that the meeting comes at a critical time when the PDP is grappling with defections, leadership disputes, and the challenge of repositioning itself ahead of the 2027 general elections. Observers say the outcome of the NEC session could shape the party’s direction in the coming months.

Among the issues likely to dominate discussions are internal reconciliation efforts, strategies to stem further defections, and possible reforms within the party’s leadership structure. There are also expectations that the NEC may address concerns raised by aggrieved members across various state chapters.

Political analysts note that NEC meetings traditionally serve as the PDP’s highest decision-making platform outside its national convention, making this gathering particularly significant given the current tensions within the party.

The Merit Newspaper reports that some stakeholders have called for decisive leadership and unity, warning that continued divisions could weaken the PDP’s standing as a formidable opposition force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The notice for the meeting, endorsed by NEC members, signals the party’s intent to confront its challenges head-on, as Nigerians and political watchers alike await the resolutions that will emerge from the crucial session.
